Apologetics

uh-pol-uh-JET-iksnoun

The reasoned defense of the Christian faith — giving “a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15).

Not To Be Confused With

Apologetics means defense or explanation, not “apologizing” in the sense of saying sorry. From Greek apologia, a courtroom defense.

Apologetics answers objections and commends the faith's truth — historically, philosophically, and existentially. It works best paired with clear reasoning: knowing the common fallacies keeps a defense honest as well as persuasive.
