Calvinism

The Reformed theological tradition stemming from John Calvin, stressing God's sovereignty in salvation — popularly summarized by the five points (TULIP).

Not To Be Confused With

“Calvinism” names a whole tradition, not only the five points (which answered the Arminian Remonstrance at Dort, 1619). It is intramural orthodox Protestant theology — a debate with Arminianism, not a heresy.

Beyond predestination, Calvinism is a comprehensive vision — covenant, the sovereignty of God in all of life, Word and sacrament. Its long-running, in-house debate with Arminianism concerns grace, election, and the will — both sides confessing the Nicene faith.
