Not To Be Confused With
Every dogma is a doctrine; not every doctrine is a dogma. Doctrine spans the essential (the deity of Christ) and the debated (the timing of the end times).
From Latin doctrina, “teaching” (related to “doctor,” a teacher). Doctrine is simply what is taught — the organized content of Christian belief. Theologos sorts doctrines by weight: essentials all Christians confess, important-but-debated matters, and genuinely open questions.
