The Five Solas

The five Latin 'alone' slogans summarizing Reformation theology: Scripture alone, grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone, to the glory of God alone.

Not To Be Confused With

The solas are a later summary (the fivefold list is modern) of Reformation convictions, not a creed any reformer signed. Each 'alone' excludes a rival ground, not the other solas.

Sola Scriptura, sola gratia, sola fide, solus Christus, soli Deo gloria. Together they frame the Reformation's answer to medieval Catholicism: salvation by God's grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, known from Scripture alone, for God's glory alone.
