Real Presence

The belief that Christ is truly present in the Lord's Supper — affirmed across most traditions, but explained very differently.

Not To Be Confused With

“Real presence” is the shared affirmation; the EXPLANATIONS differ — transubstantiation (Catholic), sacramental union (Lutheran), spiritual real presence (Reformed), and memorialism (which denies a special presence in the elements).

“This is my body” (1 Cor 11:24) has been read along a spectrum. Transubstantiation, Lutheran sacramental union, Reformed spiritual feeding by the Spirit, and memorialism mark the range. Theologos presents each in its own voice. The shared ground is real participation (koinonia) in Christ.
