Barachiel

Barachiel — also Barakiel or Baraqiel — is one of the seven archangels of Eastern Orthodox and Coptic veneration. His name in Hebrew means 'Blessing of God,' and his particular ministry is the distribution of the blessings of God to the faithful. Where Selaphiel kindles the prayers of the saints upward, Barachiel carries the blessings of God downward into the lives of the Church.

He is not named in any biblical canon, though he appears in the Book of Enoch (1 Enoch 6:7) in a list of the angelic leaders of the Watchers — and this is a different Barakiel from the archangel venerated in Eastern tradition. The two should not be conflated. The archangel Barachiel of the seven is honored as a faithful messenger of divine blessing.

Iconographically, Barachiel is depicted holding a white rose in his hand, with additional white roses scattered across his robe — a visual rendering of the blessings of God falling from heaven into the world. Russian Orthodox iconography developed this image with particular care, and Barachiel is sometimes pictured with three crowns or with a censer, indicating different facets of the ministry of blessing he embodies.
